I hope you had a great long weekend for Labor Day.
I ended up taking Monday off too (though not by choice). Let me explain.
The day started strong with a book meeting with my collaborator, Alex. We read through the intro and Chapter 1, and I honestly feel so good about where the book is right now.
But as the day went on, I completely crashed.
Long story short: stomach issues plus a little mental health spiral. Since Saturday, I’ve felt out of my body and really dysregulated.
I’ve shared this a bit on Instagram stories but, right now I’m finishing a 4-month parasite detox. I wrap it up September 15th (thank god). It’s been tough but worth it. The hardest part is every time my period hits during the cleanse, I go into a full spiral. This was my fourth round, and apparently I needed to relearn that lesson because I forgot.
So, that’s the least gross way I can sum up the last 48 hours. The good news is I rested, felt my feelings, ate nourishing food, slept a ton, and today I feel much better.
This inspired me to make this carousel.
What is Rest?
Rest isn’t just “doing nothing”, surprisingly.
At its core, rest is any intentional pause that helps your body, mind, and spirit recover. Sometimes that’s sleep. Other times it’s stepping away from noise, saying no to draining people, letting yourself be in a bad mood, or doing something creative that recharges you.
The key difference is rest restores energy, while distraction just numbs it.
Working on my book has pushed me into a new challenge, so I’ve been inspired to rebuild my rest toolkit.
On Monday afternoon, when my health hit this breaking point, I grab my phone or a notebook and just let it all out.
I ranted about everything: unfinished to-dos, stuff I’m avoiding, people who annoyed me. Whatever’s taking up space in my head went down on paper.
During my research inspired by the latest crash, I learned this practice actually has a name: Mental Rest. And it turns out there are 7 different kinds of rest we all need.
7 Types of Rest
Physical Rest
Give your body a break. Sleep deeply, move gently, and let yourself fully recharge.
Mental Rest
Step out of overthinking. Clear your head with silence, stillness, or simple routines.
Emotional Rest
Release the pressure to hold it all together. Allow yourself to feel, cry, or simply be.
Social Rest
Not every interaction is nourishing. Choose spaces and people that don’t drain you.
Sensory Rest (My favorite)
Your system needs calm. Unplug, dim the lights, and give your senses downtime.
Creative Rest
Refill your imagination. Seek beauty, play with new ideas, and let wonder in.
Purposeful Rest
Pause to reconnect with meaning. Do things that remind you why you’re here.
Healing is Rest
I built a system to help you finally let go of old ways of working without another exhausting program or hours of “homework.”
This operating system is designed to walk you through:
Healing from the stress and wounds your job left behind
Automating the parts of work that still drain your energy
Exiting the old “corporate pick me” identity for good
The first step is simple: The Corporate Detox Journal.
It gives you guided prompts, reflection tools, and proven exercises to release toxic work patterns so you can move forward with clarity, peace, and confidence.
If you’ve been craving structure without burnout, this is where you start.
