Work Whistleblowing!
Work Whistleblowing - Our New Show
I actually can’t stand TikTok. And I am not the only creator that feels this way.
Since TikTok Shop launched last fall, the whole app just feels like one big infomercial. Plus it’s a discovery app which can be great for new people, but I am tired of reading comments from people who saw 5 seconds of me and then decide to jump to conclusions. The haters, of course, are not all comments, I still love my loyal TikTokers who have been with me over the last 3 years. But after a while, it gets old and it ruins how I make content.
After years of experiencing not-so-fun comments, I start to make content that doesn’t make people mad, instead of making content that I am excited to talk about. So behold, this Substack! ❤️
You’re probably wondering if some of my reason is because of the TikTok ban. It actually has nothing to do with that. I could give two shi*ts if TikTok goes away, to be frank. Instagram is another conversation though, I would ✨not be okay✨ if Instagram was turned off. But that won’t happen any time soon!
So, why does this anti-TikTok ramble matter? Because I was going to build a show there. Work Whistleblowing is a content series my manager and I were building out to cancel toxic employers. After a lot of consideration the during the planning phase of this, I don’t really feel like hosting the meats and potatoes of my well-thought out observations on TikTok. Where a lot of people with random usernames and no profile pictures to argue with me (and “people” is used loosely here, I think there’s a lot more bots on TikTok than we know of today). I just wouldn’t show up authentically….
So we’re doing it here!
What is Work Whistleblowing?
An opportunity for you to anonymously submit your worst work stories. When we don’t speak up, we internalize the pain and isolate ourselves. And when we don’t share toxic work environments it teaches employers they can get away with their behavior and continue the toxic behavior.
Anti Work sentiments are here to stay. Gen Z has the courage to walk away from toxic bosses and we understand the urgency to protecting our wallets and interests due to the crumbling economy around us. Companies that have a great working environment will be the new “it” thing. And companies that cannot innovate past the toxic corporate climbing nonsense will fall behind from not gaining the next generation of talet.
And how we get there is by exposing the problems first!
How Can I Participate?
You can anonymously submit your Work Whistleblowing story here for a chance to be featured!
I am the only one who reads these submissions. I do not capture your personal data besides an optional question to disclose your gender. This is so when I am referring to you as the worker, I am addressing your pronouns correctly. Again, it’s optional so if that information is too sensitive feel free to not disclose.
How Can I Read Each “Episode”?
I put “episode” in quotations because they will be articles! I am sure I will add other media types in these posts where appropriate (graphs, images, videos, audio, etc…).
You know I am the lazy girl job girl. And part of being a lazy girl is knowing your strengths and weaknesses and being radically honest. I learned this year, I am actually more of a writer than a filmer! I am in the process of writing my first book with an amazing agent! And I got invited to be a contributor for Entrepreneur this year. Check out my work with them here!
Additionally, filming content has a lot of bottle necks, Writing does too don’t get me wrong…writer’s block can be quite a journey. But filming content makes me have to be at my filming location, editing, finding a time to post, optimizing the video file for each platform, censoring myself so that the algorithms don’t hide the video, etc…. And I didn’t even get into making sure my house is quiet so I can film, the hour and a half it takes to do my hair and makeup, and so on!
The full synopsis of the story with my anti work thoughts will be on the paid side! (Monthly = $6, Yearly = $5/month). Feel free to sign up below
Why I created Work Whistleblowing?
For two seperate reasons. My first reason is explained briefly above in the “What is Work Whistleblowing” section. We need more resources to be able to discuss unethical work behaviors. We need to understand that it is not our fault when toxic stuff happens to us, even in the workplace! And finding community around a common problem is a great way to find healing!
My second reason, is a little bit more selfish but in a way that I can be more selfless for you. I want to take my partnerships to the next level. Right now, most of my sponsors on TikTok and Instagram are AI platforms that make your work life more lazy, which I love! And to take it to the next level, I want to start highlighting employers who are “Anti Work Girlboss - approved”. There are a lot of great companies out there that do want to pay for exposure on their amazing company culture. And I want you all to have more information on the good employers out there.
So we are tackling the problem first, to be able to pitch the solution to some amazing employers! I ask you to help me manifest some really big strategic partnerships that bring the lazy girl job movement to the next level!
I can’t wait to read your submissions!
Xoxo,
Gabrielle
